FMHS ORCHESTRA AUDITIONS RESULTS FOR THE 2023-2024 SCHOOL YEAR

Dear FMHS Orchestra Students,

Thank you so much for investing yourselves in the audition process for 2023-2024.  We know it takes a great deal of work/effort to prepare an audition.  The level of playing demonstrated across the program was very high and we are looking forward to working with our five incredible orchestras next year.

All of our ensembles are highly successful and are rewarding to perform with. You will have the opportunity to participate in every concert, all activities, social events, trips, etc. Remember, which excerpts you auditioned with do not necessarily determine which orchestra you are placed into. For example, playing the Chamber or Philharmonic excerpts does not guarantee placement in that ensemble. Numerous factors are involved in audition placement: ability to be successful/engaged in the repertoire, balance needs of the ensemble, commitment to the program, demonstrated effort/engagement throughout the year in rehearsal, etc.

For incoming 9th graders:

A typical path for an entering 9th grade orchestra student is to move from middle school varsity orchestra to FMHS Concert Orchestra. A very limited number of 9th graders are placed into Chamber, Philharmonic, Symphonic and Camerata.  For example, there are typically 2-3 freshmen students in Chamber (Varsity Level), 4-5 in Philharmonic, 6-10 in Symphonic, 8-10 in Camerata, etc. All Orchestras involve students from Grades 9-12. Camerata meets concurrently with the Concert Orchestra in a different space, so you may see it listed on your schedule as “Orch-Clink”.  All HS orchestras build on the concepts you have built in MS and will help you continue to progress and engage in more challenging repertoire. We team teach all orchestras.

Results Information:

Listed below are the audition results for 2023-24. This information has been sent to your guidance counselor for scheduling purposes. Both semester involvement is expected for all orchestras. Placement in the Varsity-Level Chamber Orchestra implies that you are ready to be especially committed with rigorous work expected on your instrument. Full year enrollment is required for Chamber Orchestra.  You may level down for scheduling purposes, but you cannot level up.  For example, a student placed in Philharmonic could register for Symphonic, but not the reverse.  If you do not see your ID number listed, contact clinks@lisd.net and we are happy to provide you placement information.

We have a 24-hour return policy on answering questions related to auditions. We will not be answering any emails until Thursday. If at that point you are ready to have a calm and thoughtful discussion, we are happy to speak with you. Feel welcome to reach out to us at that point if we can be of any help. If it is a pragmatic issue like a missing ID number, reach out immediately and we are happy to help.

Also listed below are the Officer Positions for 2023-24. Appreciate that so many wonderful students decided to apply for a position and want to be involved. We look forward to working with you on planning another successful year for Orchestra.

Again, thank you for your investment, and all of your efforts have us just thrilled for the many wonderful students we are going to have an opportunity to work with in 2023-2024!!!
